Advocacy Chair
Mya Day started dance at 12 years old and has been in love with it ever since. Raised in Owens Cross Roads Alabama, Mya trained at a local studio until 15, when she was awarded the opportunity to train with Joffrey Ballet School as a Jazz and Contemporary Trainee in New York City. There, Mya was fortunate to train and work closely with amazing faculty such as Angelica Stiskin, Michael Waldrop, Adrian Lee, Jason Luks, Bradley Shelver, Amy Yakima, Angelo Soriano, Jeff Lapes, and Beth Crandall. Mya performed in Joffrey Concerts such as RARE: Find your Treasure, RARE: ReFramed, Joffrey Ballet School: Shapeshift, and Spectrum: Perspective. At 17 Mya transitioned to Joffrey’s trainee program in Dallas Texas, where she trained with Kaili Bright, Leslie Hale, Thelma Flores, and Giovanni Allen.
Now as a sophomore at the University of Alabama, Mya continues to pursue her passion of dance and physical therapy though a BA in Dance, a minor in Biology, and a student on the Pre Physical Therapy Track. Mya is very involved on campus as she serves as the Advocacy Chair for Dance Alabama!, the Director of Membership Engagement for the Dance Honor Society of Alabama, and a UA Theatre and Dance Ambassador. Mya has performed in various shows at UA such as Dance Alabama Fall 2022, Dance Alabama Spring 2023, Capstone Christmas (2022), Druid City Pride Festival (2022), Greater Giving 2022, and UA MFA Concert (2022). Mya is eager to serve as Advocacy Chair for the 2023-2024 year and is looking forward to expanding the DA! family love. |
